I am honoured to share a historic milestone in the field of robotic and tele-surgery. While operating from IRCAD France, I successfully performed 12 tele-robotic surgeries on patients at Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics, Indore, India, showcasing the transformative potential of advanced surgical technology and global medical collaboration.
The procedures included 9 robotic hernia surgeries and 3 robotic gallbladder (cholecystectomy) surgeries, all performed remotely with exceptional precision and safety. These cases represent the World’s First Trans-Continental Robotic Hernia Surgeries, setting a new global benchmark in robotic surgery and cross-border healthcare delivery.
Separated by nearly 7,000 kilometres, the teams at IRCAD France and Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics worked in perfect synchronisation. Leveraging advanced robotic systems, secure high-speed connectivity and real-time communication, it was possible to perform complex surgical procedures across continents without compromising accuracy or patient safety.
This achievement was not the work of one individual. It was made possible by an extraordinary multidisciplinary team at Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics, including surgeons, anaesthetists, operating theatre professionals, robotic specialists and network experts. Their dedication, expertise and flawless coordination ensured the successful execution of every procedure.
For me, this milestone is more than a technological accomplishment. It represents the future of surgery, where expertise can transcend geographical boundaries and reach patients wherever they are. Tele-robotic surgery has the potential to revolutionise access to specialised healthcare, making advanced surgical care available beyond traditional limitations of distance.
I extend my sincere gratitude to the teams at both IRCAD France and Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics for their commitment to innovation and excellence. Together, we have demonstrated how technology, teamwork, and trust can redefine the possibilities of modern surgery and pave the way for a new era in global healthcare.
