Live Tele-Robotic Hernia Surgery Performed on a Public Stage in Ratlam
Determination and innovation once again redefined the boundaries of modern medicine as globally renowned robotic surgeon Dr. Mahak Bhandari created history by successfully performing a live tele-robotic hernia surgery on a public stage in Ratlam.
Recognised worldwide for his pioneering work in advanced and robotic surgery, Dr. Bhandari achieved this milestone during an academic and medical conference jointly organised by Sri Aurobindo University and IMA Ratlam. While the conference was in progress at a hotel in Ratlam, a patient with a hernia, admitted to Shri Jain Diwakar Aurobindo Hospital in Ratlam, underwent live tele-robotic surgery performed remotely by Dr. Bhandari. This landmark procedure marked the first-ever live tele-robotic hernia surgery in Ratlam and across Central India. The surgery was successful, and the patient was discharged in stable condition.
Full Compliance with NMC Guidelines
During the live procedure, more than 150 doctors and surgeons were present to observe and understand the practical application of tele-robotic surgery. The surgery was conducted strictly in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines, ensuring patient safety, ethical standards, and clinical transparency.
Such advancements highlight the growing potential of tele-surgery in delivering specialised healthcare to patients in remote and underserved regions who may not have access to advanced surgical facilities in major metropolitan cities.
Surgery Beyond the Operating Room
Speaking on the significance of the procedure, Dr. Mahak Bhandari stated that advanced surgery is no longer confined to traditional operating rooms. The India-developed robotic platform used in the surgery offers a compact design, immersive visualisation, and precise control, enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures remotely with high accuracy.
The portability of this robotic system allows surgeons to operate from distant locations while maintaining surgical precision and patient safety. The success of tele-robotic surgery reflects a future where geographical boundaries no longer limit access to expert surgical care.
The live tele-robotic hernia surgery performed on a public stage in Ratlam stands as a defining moment in the evolution of modern surgery, offering a glimpse into a borderless, technology-driven, and patient-focused future of healthcare.
