Sharing My Surgical Experience at HSICON 2026

I was pleased to participate as an expert operator and faculty member at HSICON 2026, the 20th Annual Conference of the Hernia Society of India, held from 8 to 10 October in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The conference brought together surgeons and experts working in the field of hernia surgery, creating an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenging cases and learn from one another.

As a Laparoscopic, Bariatric and Robotic Surgeon, I had the opportunity to take part in live surgical sessions focusing on robotic hernia repair and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. For me, such sessions are particularly valuable because they allow surgeons to discuss the practical aspects of a procedure, exchange technical insights and understand how different approaches can be applied in challenging cases.

I also contributed to scientific discussions on the use of Indocyanine Green (ICG) fluorescence imaging in Complex Component Separation Technique (CST) hernia repairs. The role of imaging in complex surgery is an important area of interest, and these discussions offered an opportunity to share perspectives on its application during surgical procedures.

Another subject that drew my attention was the growing role of robotic technology in hernia surgery. With platforms such as the indigenous SSI Mantra expanding the possibilities for robotic procedures in India, it is important to consider how these technologies can be integrated into clinical practice through appropriate training, experience and patient selection.

I believe that the progress of robotic surgery depends on more than the technology itself. The experience of the operating surgeon, sound clinical judgement and the willingness to keep learning remain equally important.

I am grateful to the organisers of HSICON 2026 and my fellow faculty members for the opportunity to be part of these discussions. It was a rewarding experience to exchange ideas with colleagues who share a common interest in improving surgical practice and advancing hernia care.
